A Quick Guide About Banner Printing

In terms of bang for your buck, a few types of advertising are more effective than banners.  Banner printing is relatively cheap, and a well-made banner but can last for years and numerous applications with proper care.  Of course, that means selecting the right material and manufacturing process for your banner.

There are numerous ways to create a banner, suitable for different applications. If you aren’t sure where to start, here’s a quick guide.

What Are The Most Common Types Of Banners?

1 – Paper banners

Paper banners are by far the cheapest option, but they are also fragile and won’t last long.  Paper banners should only be used indoors, away from any sources of moisture, humidity, or wind.  Typically, they’re intended for single-use, such as decorating a party or a one-time exhibition.

2 – Vinyl banners

Vinyl is by far the most common material for banners because it offers an excellent combination of long life with reasonable costs.  Basic vinyl banner printing involves 13oz scrim vinyl and can be up to around 50 feet wide while still holding together.

Another variation, called no-curl vinyl, uses thicker vinyl (14oz+) for extra strength.

3 – Mesh banners

Mesh banners use vinyl as well, but a thinner (10oz) variation is woven into a mesh rather than being solid.  This allows the banner to breathe and permit airflow.  Mesh banners are best for situations where high winds are likely since they aren’t as likely to be caught by the wind and ripped off.

4 – Canvas banners

Canvas banners create a very unique impression because, with the right printing techniques, they have a very painterly look.  Unfortunately, because canvas is absorptive, it can only be used indoors, away from moisture and humidity.  Canvas also tends to be an expensive option, so they’re typically only used for special occasions, or when trying to impress VIPs.

5 – Polyester fabric banners

Polyester can be a good alternative to vinyl because it stands up to the elements well, while also allowing for dye-sublimation printing.  By infusing the dye into the polyester, the colors are brighter and less likely to fade than a vinyl banner.
